7 Reasons You Should Be Using Pinterest for Business

I love the introvert’s platform that is Pinterest! Some consider it to be a social media platform, but it's kinda not! I’ve been using Pinterest in my personal capacity for a number of years, but as I moved into the world of working online, I discovered that Pinterest is in fact an extremely powerful business marketing tool!

What’s the story behind Pinterest?

According to Wikipedia: “Pinterest, Inc. is an American social media web and mobile application company. It operates a software system designed to enable saving and discovery of information on the World Wide Web using images and, on a smaller scale, GIFs and videos. The site was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. Pinterest has reached 300 million monthly active users as of August 2019.

Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann summarized the company as a "catalogue of ideas" that inspires users to "go out and do that thing", rather than as an image-based social network.”

Why do I love Pinterest for business?

1. Pinterest can take a boring topic and make it fun!

Pinterest is known for interesting and well curated content, especially creative food recipes, trendy fashion, and inspiring travel pins - all leading to quality content. But it’s also a platform that can take ordinary topics and make them fun. There is an audience on Pinterest such as digital marketers, software developers and financial advisors that turn to Pinterest to learn about “dry” topics like sales funnels and Javascript.

2. People on Pinterest are ready to buy your products

People browsing Pinterest are generally in the research phase of their buyer’s journey. They understand what they need and now need help researching potential solutions. They turn to Pinterest for ideas on what to purchase. 83% of weekly users have made a purchase based on the content they see from brands on Pinterest.

3. Visual search is everything

As a “visual discovery engine,” Pinterest is the only social media platform to offer visual search. That’s huge, especially if you consider 62% of Gen Zers and millennials say they’d like to be able to search by image. According to Pinterest, Pinterest Lens can now identify more than 2.5 billion home and fashion objects.

4. Women love Pinterest

I personally work with a lot of female entrepreneurs and appreciate the fact that more than two-thirds of Pinterest’s base is women. In the United States, 8 in every 10 moms is on the platform.

5. A factory for creativity

Any initiative that inspires creativity has my approval, and if you’re like me, you’ll know that if you’re blocked, stumped, or in a slump, turning to Pinterest will likely offer an inspirational spark. According to co founder Evan Sharp, who started Pinterest with CEO Ben Silbermann in 2009, “The first half is to help people discover the things that they love. The second half is to enable people to go out and act on those things, to make them actually part of their life.”

6. #1 Source of Website traffic

Pinterest is hands down one of the most effective social media sites for driving traffic to your business, If you’re using it correctly ofcourse. Over the past recent years I’ve seen accounts I’ve worked on drive hundreds of thousands of pageviews via Pinterest and have even had pins go viral. The great thing about Pinterest is there’s no secret to it, either. If you put in the time and effort, you’ll see results.
