Creating a Pinterest Business Account

Welcome back!

Before I dive into this blog post on creating a Pinterest Business Account, click here for my previous blog post on why to use Pinterest marketing as part of your digital marketing strategy. Now that you know Pinterest is such a powerful marketing tool, let’s get started creating a Pinterest Business Account.

So you’re probably thinking “How do I start creating a Pinterest Business Account?” or “Where do I start creating a Pinterest Business Account?” or “How does any of this even work?”.

It’s ok. Everything is going to be fine. 🙂

Step by step, I’ll guide you in the least overwhelming way possible. I know how powerful Pinterest can be for growing your business so I want you to feel excited vs grabbling for direction and clarity.

Creating a Pinterest Business Account

  1. When creating a Pinterest Business Account, sign up to Pinterest using your name and email. Use your business email address if possible.

  2. Pinterest will ask you to pick a username for your profile, which will also become your URL. Choose something as close to your business name as possible while fitting into the 14 character limit. For example, I use pinterest.com/ciaobellamedia. That fits, but if it didn’t, I might have chosen pinterest.com/cbm.

  3. (If you’re transitioning from a personal account to a business account, this section is for you!) Right away, convert to a business account by going to business.pinterest.com. Click “log in” and use the same login information you created when you signed up. The screen will prompt you through a series of settings that will help you connect your website to your Pinterest account. You want a business account for 2 reasons – 1). because Pinterest said so and 2). because it enables you to have access to Pinterest analytics!

  4. Head back to profile settings and complete the account setup by selecting a business name. I chose the name of my business and included a few keywords behind it.

Pinterest Business Account vs Personal

Should you convert a personal account to a business account or should you open an entirely new account? Pinterest business account vs personal - which is more suitable?

If the Pinterest boards and pins on your personal account fit into the niche of your business, this can be a great option. If they are wildly different or your personal account is just a mish-mash mess of pins and ideas, head back up to the first step and rather create a business account from scratch.

If the boards and pins on your personal account are partly related to what your business is about and you've decided to just convert to a business account, you can move any unrelated boards to secret and make the focus of your pinning and boards going forward all about your business.

Think of it this way. What does your target customer, reader or follower want from you? If your blog or website is all about manifestation and law of attraction, boards and pins related to Thanksgiving dinner recipes and wedding planning won't be the best fit.

Your Pinterest Marketing Strategy Starts Here

The Pinterest algorithm will pick up on what you pin, the keywords used in your board names and descriptions as well as your profile description. Pinterest also uses these keywords as cues to “create a picture” and understand what your business is about and what kind of content you offer. If you aren’t clear from the very start, then Pinterest might not understand what you offer and your content may not be shown to the right people.

If you have ANY questions about this or want a second opinion on whether you should convert to business or open a brand new account, pop me an email at info@ciaobellamedia.com and I will get back to you with my best advice.
